T-Pain’s Animated Adventure “Freaknik” The Musical Premieres March 7th on Adult Swim

On March 7, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim will premiere “Freaknik: The Musical,” an hour-long extravaganza detailing a group of kids’ quest to “resurrect the spirit of Freaknik … the biggest spring-break party known to man.”

Ten years after the city of Atlanta shut down Freaknik, a group of kids searching for fun successfully reincarnate the spirit of Freaknik, who appears in the form of a party ghost voiced by T-Pain. Students from all over America once again descend on Atlanta to perform in Freaknik’s Battle of the Trillest.

According to a Cartoon Network press release, T-Pain — who is also listed as an executive producer on the show — explains “It was a gift … I always wanted to do a cartoon and I didn’t know it would be this good.” Other musicians lending their voices to “Freaknik” include Lil Wayne, Big Boi, Rick Ross, Kelis, Snoop Dogg, Lil Jon, George Clinton and Bootsy Collins. Comedians Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Charlie Murphy also appear.

“Back in the ’90s, Freaknik was Atlanta’s version of the ultimate block party,” says T-Pain. “It was Mardi Gras meets spring break at your crazy cousin’s bachelor party and anything could happen. A decade later, I’m bringing it back for people like me, who didn’t get to experience it the first time around. We’ve recreated Freaknik’s vibe and energy with amazing animation, new music and an all-star cast of characters.”

T-Pain teamed up with Carl Jones, also co-executive producer of “The Boondocks,” and Adult Swim executive Nick Weidenfeld for the animated musical, crafting a tale that follows a rap group — and its weed man — trying to make it to the annual party and compete in the Battle of the Trillest. The special will premiere March 7th at 11:30 e/p on The Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.

Gang Starr’s Guru Undergoes Successful Surgery After Suffering From Heart Attack

Gang Starr MC Guru underwent successful surgery on Monday, according to DJ Premier. Premier, Guru’s partner in the long-running hip-hop outfit, tweeted the news Tuesday morning (March 2), writing, (“good news: Guru surgery was successful, keep sending him love.” Premier did not specify what the surgery was for or what the MC’s current condition was, and spokespeople for Guru could not be reached at press time for further information on the rapper’s medical condition.

Guru suffered what has been described as a massive heart attack over the weekend, and according to reports was in a coma as of Monday. Premier began offering updates on the surgery late Monday night, writing, “Guru still in surgery, keep on praying people, he will make it.”

An unnamed source told AllHipHop.com that the rapper was doing “fine” and is expected to make a full recovery. “Guru is alive and recovering from his surgery. Doctors are expecting a full recovery luckily.”

Hot 97’s news director Miss Info reported Monday that Guru was in a New York-area hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery.

One of Guru’s former collaborators, French MC Solaar, issued a statement on Monday in which he said, “Guru is struggling with a serious health issue. We, the whole 7 Grand Records family, appreciate all your love and well wishes. We continue to hold out hope that Guru will make a full recovery from this. We ask that his privacy on this matter will be respected. Again, thank you for all your support through this trying time.”

Composed of Guru (born Keith Elam in Massachusetts) and Premier (born Christopher Martin in Texas), Gang Starr teamed together to help define the New York underground rap sound in the early ’90s. Premier’s production palette featured sampled jazz records and scratched vocals on the choruses, complemented Guru’s uncompromising rhymes. Although the pair would work separately as often as they did together — Guru’s Jazzmatazz series of albums and Premier’s work with Nas, Jay-Z, and underground act Group Home — Gang Starr continued to release critically acclaimed material throughout the late ’90s and early 2000s.

Their 1998 album Moment of Truth was among their most critically lauded collections and Gang Starr’s biggest selling project to date. Gang Starr’s last group project, The Ownerz, was released in 2003.

Guru spoke with MTV News at the time, noting the pair’s penchant for working on outside projects, but ultimately continuing to stoke the Gang Starr flames.

“You went on your little vacation, but you come back home with a bunch of skills and other things to add to the table,” he said. “When we do Gang Starr it always gets more and more intense.”

Trina Talks About Nude Cell Phone Pictures Leaked Online

Nude photos of rapper Trina leaked to the Internet over the weekend, showing the female MC in several personal poses.

The pics — which were posted at WorldStarHipHop.com — appear to be taken via cellphone.

In the photos, the Miami rapper is seen exposing her breasts with a clear shot of her face in one, while another shows a close up of what is assumed to be her crotch. There are also numerous, clothed, photos of Trina and her NBA boyfriend Kenyon Martin, as well as close-up pics of some sort of skin reaction.

While details regarding the leakage were unknown at press time, coincidentally, Trina spoke about the possibility of embarrassing photos being leaked during an interview released a week prior, where she revealed that she had lost her cellphone.

In an interview with Str8NYC.com, the rapper was asked how she felt about the leakage of sex tapes and nude photos for publicity. In response, Trina said she felt it was an invasion of privacy, and would be devastated if personal photos of herself were made public.

“I personally would not want a picture of me exposed leaked,” Trina told the website. “I lost my phone, and I had some pictures of me that I don’t want the world to see. I’m thinking that if it ever came out, I’m devastated. It’s not sex tape pictures, but it’s still … I don’t want you to see it. Losing a phone, it happens.

“I was so devastated about this phone. I was calling up my mom crying like ‘Mom…’ I just feel like what’s personal is personal,” she continued. “I don’t feel like, as an artist, that I need to do anything to expose myself. I don’t need to put out a nude photo for press. I don’t need to do that. I don’t want a sex tape of me and my significant other to be worldwide for the world to see. That’s a personal endeavor.”

Despite the photos being lost along with her phone, Trina made it clear that the public would never see a sex tape … because she’s never made one and never will.

“For me, I don’t have no sex tape, you ain’t gonna see no sex tape, and I didn’t make none. If I made one, I’m keeping it. You ain’t gonna have it,” she said.
